Common heat pump problems we fix
- Not heating or blowing cool air: reversing valve, low charge, thermostat settings, failed outdoor fan.
- Iced-up outdoor unit: defrost sensor or control board faults, blocked airflow, low refrigerant.
- Error codes on a ductless head or thermostat: sensor failures, communication faults, drain issues.
- Water leaking from an indoor head: blocked or poorly sloped condensate drain.
- New noises: loose fan blades, failing fan motor bearings, refrigerant flow noise.
- Short cycling or uneven temperatures: oversizing, sensor placement, or zone settings.
Before you call
- Check the thermostat or remote is on heat, not cool or auto.
- Check and clean the filter - on ductless heads, slide out the mesh filters and rinse them.
- Make sure the outdoor unit isn't buried in leaves or snow.
- Check the breaker for the outdoor unit.
If none of that helps, call us. Tell us the make, the model if you can see it, and any error code - it helps us bring the right parts.
Heat pump acting up?
Call and describe what it's doing. We'll tell you what the visit will involve and the diagnostic fee before we book.
Repair or replace?
We'll give you a straight answer. A component failure on a system under ten years old is almost always worth fixing. If you're looking at a compressor replacement on an older unit, we'll price a new system alongside the repair, including any rebates you'd qualify for - so you can decide with both numbers.
Regular maintenance catches most of these problems before they leave you without heat.
