Air conditioner repair in Vancouver

If your air conditioner is blowing warm air, running constantly, leaking water or making a new noise, we diagnose and repair central, ductless and heat pump cooling across Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. Most problems trace back to airflow, refrigerant, electrical parts or a blocked drain.

Common air conditioner problems we fix

  • Not cooling or weak airflow: dirty filters or coils, failed blower, low refrigerant, failed capacitor.
  • Frozen coil or iced lines: restricted airflow, low charge, faulty fan.
  • Water leaks: blocked condensate drain or pan, frozen coil.
  • Strange noises: loose panels, failing fan motor, worn bearings, compressor trouble.
  • Short cycling or constant running: sensor faults, oversizing, refrigerant problems.
  • Outdoor unit won't start: capacitor, contactor, breaker or control faults.

Before you call

  1. Check the thermostat is set to cool, with a temperature below the room temperature.
  2. Check and replace or clean the filter.
  3. Make sure the outdoor unit has clear space and isn't blocked by leaves or plants.
  4. Check the breaker for the outdoor unit and the indoor unit.

AC not cooling?

Call and describe what it's doing. We'll tell you what the visit involves and the diagnostic fee before we book.

Keep it from happening again

A yearly maintenance visit before summer catches most cooling problems. If your system is old, or you're also unhappy with your heating, a heat pump can replace both. For a new system, see air conditioner installation.

Questions people ask us

Common causes are a clogged filter or frozen coil, a dirty outdoor coil, low refrigerant from a leak, a failed capacitor or fan motor, or the thermostat set to the wrong mode. If the filter is clean and the breaker is on and it still isn't cooling, call us.

Ice usually points to restricted airflow or low refrigerant. Turn the system off and let it thaw before calling, because running a frozen system can damage the compressor.

Almost always a blocked or poorly sloped condensate drain, or a frozen coil melting. Clearing the drain fixes most cases, and we can set up a routine cleaning so it doesn't return.

Repair makes sense for a component failure on a system under about ten to twelve years old. On an older unit with a major failure, we'll price a replacement or a heat pump next to the repair so you can compare.

Yes. A heat pump cools the same way an air conditioner does, so cooling faults on ducted and ductless heat pumps are covered. See our heat pump repair page for heating problems.

It depends on the fault. We quote the diagnostic fee when you book, and we quote the repair before we do the work, so there are no surprises.
